  • Refurbished 1TB Time Capsules

The Time Capsule is Apple’s all-in-one solution for home networks. In conjunction with Apple’s Time Machine software built into Leopard and Snow Leopard (Over 60% faster on Snow Leopard), your computer can automatically back up to the Time Capsule’s 1TB or 2TB hard drive, with an update occurring hourly.

In fact, unlike other external hard drives, multiple Macs can back up to this same device! This is an enterprise-grade hard drive, and capable of surviving many years of use.

This device also enables you to share USB hard drives and printers to all machines on the network. Just plug in a powered USB hub to support multiple devices!

Configuration is relatively simple, compared to most other router brands. If you own a Mac, you already have the software installed to handle the setup. Just open your AirPort Utility, which is located under Applications > Utilities. This will enable you to access the router, and go through a setup assistant to get you started!

It also features the ability to extend your wireless range using WDS (Wireless Distribution System) and a compatible router. Generally this works best with the AirPort Extreme or Express.

Small Dog currently has a factory refurbished “1TB model at $219.99,”:http://www.smalldog.com/product/77022/at_bis with a full 1-year Apple warranty. It cuts $80 off the $299.99 retail.

  • The New MacBook Air is Here!

Last month Apple made a long-overdue update to it’s thinnest and lightest computer–the MacBook Air. Formerly available in only a 13-inch option, there are now both 11- and 13-inch models to choose from.

They both sport flash storage (that’s right folks, no more hard drives!), which was previously an optional configuration. You can now get up to 256GB of solid-state flash storage in the world’s thinnest notebook computer!

Having had a chance to play around with the new 11-inch model we have on demo on the sales floor in South Burlington, I must say the performance of the flash storage makes both application load times and boot times much snappier than any standard, spinning platter hard drive can offer.

These new Macbook Airs are the perfect laptop for those on the go, or for students who want a super light computer to bring to class. Of course, they are a fantastic entry level machine for those new to the Mac platform. Come into the store and check these out for yourself, or take a look at the entire revamped MacBook Air line “here.”:http://www.smalldog.com/category/x/x/x/Apple|MacBook_Air/at_bis

  • It’s hard to believe in just a few short weeks the 2010 Holiday shopping season will be in full swing! It’s been a great year for us here at Small Dog, and an amazingly busy past couple of months: between the opening of our newest store in the Mall of New Hampshire (in Manchester, NH), our 4th annual eWaste event, and all of the new Apple products that have been released over the past few months we’ve been going nearly nonstop!

All of our stores are packed with the latest and greatest from Apple, and there are so many great gift ideas this season it’s almost overwhelming. Our prediction is the new iPod touch, Apple TV, iPad, and the recently announced 11-inch MacBook Air will be the hot holiday items this season, and we’ll be keeping our stores stocked with these items and more for the holiday rush. We also have some great new colors of our famous Chill Pill Mobile Speakers: Blue, Purple, and Red! Be sure to stop in to any of our locations and check out these awesome offerings.

Hope everyone in the VT/NH area had a chance to enjoy the great foliage we had this season. Nothing beats taking a long drive with the windows down, sun shining, and music cranked as you soak in gorgeous colors of the season before the snow settles!

Hope to see many of you in the store!
    – Gary, Jeremiah, and the South Burlington staff

  • I am heading up to Montreal this weekend for a getaway with Grace. While our 43rd Anniversary was last week, I was in Austin so we decided to head north to take in a concert and have a nice dinner. It is nice to have such a cosmopolitan city so close.

Don’t scare anyone too much this Halloween weekend!

  • Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 Released

Microsoft released the highly anticipated new version of its popular Office software for Mac this week. Marking the first major update to the software suite since January of 2008, Office for Mac 2011 bundles a slew of frequently requested features alongside general updates to existing applications.

Perhaps two of the most awaited features for legacy Office users are Visual Basic and the introduction of Outlook for Mac. While Microsoft’s Outlook-esque all-in-one app Entourage has offered functionality reminiscent of Outlook since 2000, Mac users have never been afforded a direct port of the software until now. With Outlook syncing and integration built in to the Home and Business version of 2011, Exchange-based users will certainly experience greater flexibility in managing their workloads.

Currently, we have all versions of Office for Mac 2011 in stock, and are running some great launch promotions. Right now, select versions of Office for Mac 2011 are eligible for savings from $5-$15 off and free shipping! Click “*here*”:http://www.smalldog.com/search/?find=Office+for+mac+2011 to learn more.

  • White iPhone 4 Delayed Until 2011

If you were hoping to unwrap the colorless cousin of Apple’s wildly successful iPhone 4 sometime this holiday season, it would seem that you’re out of luck. “*Reuters*”:http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSN2616379220101026 reported Tuesday that the white version of the iPhone 4 has been hit with delays yet again. When Apple last addressed the issue, the availability of the phone was pushed from July until “the end of the year.” Now, the company expects the phone to be available in 2011, assigning the fuzzy release date of “early next year.”

There are rumors abound speculating as to the phone’s continued delays. Initially, color quality and consistency in the manufacturing process seemingly impeded the phone’s availability. More recently however, theories surrounding camera performance have surfaced. Apparently–due to a flaw in the overall case design–the rear facing camera is having issues with light leaks, effectively ruining one of the phone’s most acclaimed features. Throughout all of this, Apple has remained largely reserved on the issue. Slyly bumping the phone’s availability back in the Apple Store, the company has not officially acknowledged any problems beyond a June 23rd “*press release*”:http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2010/06/23iphonestatement.html which cited “manufacturing challenges.”

Most recently, reports have emerged that Apple may not even intend to release a white iPhone 4 at all. With an annual update cycle, and substantial changes to the platform rumored for early 2011, releasing a “new” model of the iPhone 4 this late in the game may not be first on the agenda for the company. Will we, in fact, see a white iPhone 4 in 2011? I’d say that the odds are shrouded in as much mystery as the phone itself.

*UPDATE:* 10/28/10 – Apple has removed the white iPhone 4 from the Apple Online Store. The elusive phone still appears on the general iPhone 4 product page, but all mention–including the availability status–has vanished from the online store entirely. Is this the beginning of the end?
