Anker Recalls Millions of Power Banks: Check Yours Today

We recommend sticking with well-known brands when buying accessories, and a recent example illustrates why this is important. Anker, a highly regarded accessory manufacturer, has initiated voluntary recalls of power bank models sold from 2016 to the present due to the risk of overheating, melting, smoke, and fire. In mid-June, the company recalled 1.1 million PowerCore 10000 power banks; it has now issued another recall for more recent models of its Power Bank, MagGo Power Bank, and Zolo Power Bank. If you own one of these products—even if it’s working fine—go to Anker’s product recalls page for more information and a serial number checker. If your power bank is affected, stop using it immediately and contact your municipal household hazardous waste collection center for disposal guidance—neither the trash nor standard recycling boxes at retail stores are acceptable. Anker will give you a free replacement or a gift card for use on the Anker website.

  • _Dear Friends,_

I have become super aware of mosquitos with all the news about the Zika virus. For some reason biting insects just love me whether they are super tiny no-see-ums here in the Keys or slightly larger ones in Vermont they seem to be attracted to me. The first thing that I noticed about the mosquitos down here is that they are tiny compared to the ones that come out every year in Vermont. Seriously though, this Zika virus seems like a very serious health epidemic with the World Health Organization calling it a crisis. They have a pretty serious mosquito control program down here with guys that go door to door to look for standing water and spraying year around.

Apple announced their holiday quarter financials and they beat the estimates on the street and posted the most revenue and profit ever for Apple and in a truly remarkable factoid, the most profit generated in a quarter by any public corporation, EVER. I will talk about the financial results below but let’s just say if Apple has reached a plateau it sure is a lofty one! Just to contrast that a bit against the other guys, Samsung reported a 40% decline in profits. They posted about a $15.8 billion profit for the entire year which Apple crushed in a single three month period!

  • _Hello Friends,_

The big winter storm called Jonas is heading for the east coast and Vermonters are hoping that it tracks north of the current projections but it looks like it might miss northern New England and hit the coastal areas. The lack of snow in Vermont and the unusually high temperatures have hit the Vermont ski areas and local merchants pretty hard. Here it is the end of January and no significant snow in Vermont. Well for all the skiers and especially for the businesses I hope that those areas that can’t really handle snow get bypassed and Vermont gets the big dump because Vermonters are ready.

Down here in Key West it has been sort of cool meaning I have to wear long pants and shoes, although if it was this warm in Vermont everyone would be in shorts. Down here when it gets below 65 you see people with down coats. NOAA reported this week that 2015 was the warmest year in recorded history breaking the record from 2014 by far.

Apple honored Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on its home page on the national holiday on Monday with Dr. King’s quotation “Life’s most persistent and urgent questions is, What are you doing for others”. Tim Cook tweeted his respects, too. I had the honor of marching with Dr. King and share this respect, he was truly one of the great Americans of all time

We always advertise our “Celebrate Diversity” slogan during this time of the year. We strongly feel that you gain strength through diversity whether it is race, religion, national origin or sexual orientation. I remember a long time ago we had a series of Celebrate Diversity web banners that created a lot of controversy with some sites refusing to run them. Diversity is much more mainstream now despite some candidates for President attempting to divide us.
